About the program: This program is for adults age 60 or older,
with a limited income, who are looking for a way to provide added growth, purpose,
and fulfillment to their life while at the same time earning a small income. Foster
Grandparent volunteers work with children in grades K through 3 of the Sheboygan
Area School District (under the direction of the classroom teacher), 15-25 hours a
week, providing love, care and assistance to children wth specific academic or
emotional needs. In return, the Foster Grandparent receives an hourly stipend, daily
meal and mileage reimbursement, as well as an annual physical exam. The money earned
is tax-free and does not interfere with any subsidized housing or fuel assistance a
person may qualify to receive. Through their interaction and involvement with the
children, the older adult finds purpose and fulfillment as they once again feel
needed and loved.
